Here's your chance to get to know the intricacies of a forklift. So don't miss out on this opportunity.

Let's start with the basics....

What is a Forklift?

It is also called as either a lift truck or a forklift truck. It has a set of steel forks that are inserted under the heavy load. The forklifts are used when the loads are placed on a wooden pallet, which makes it easier for the forklift driver to lift the heavy load and transfer it elsewhere. Forklifts were first developed in the 1920s and since then they have become a very essential piece of equipment being used in the field of warehousing and manufacturing.

What makes up a Forklift?

Below is a list of some of the things that can be related to a forklift.
  • Truck: It is a very miniature version of an actual truck that is mobile and is on the move with a set of wheels or tracks, which is powered with the help of a drive train.

  • An Engine: The engine can run on LPG, diesel, or then gasoline. Some of the forklifts may have an electric motor that is either powered with the help of fuel cells or a battery.

  • Mast: It is a vertical assembly, which is used for lowering, raising or then tilting the heavy load. The mast can either be operated hydraulically or operated with the help of a chain that is powered with a hydraulic motor.

  • Carriage: The carriage is made up of metal plates that are flat in nature and are operated either as attached to a hydraulic cylinder or move along side the mast with the help of chains.

  • Forks: The fork or forks can either be one or more and are used to lift the load and carry it around.

  • Cab: The cab may have a seat for the driver of the forklift truck with control pedals, levers, steering wheel, and also switches for controlling the forklift.
